Introduction to Hinduism: Ritual, Yoga, Caste, and Gender

In this course we turn our attention to Hindu religious practice, including temple ritual and the meditational techniques of classical yoga. We explore social Hinduism, particularly issues of caste and gender, before considering how Hindus have responded to the challenges posed by foreign rule and modernity. Finally we look at some of the great works of Hindu religious literature.

Three Short Upanishads

NEW! A detailed, verse-by-verse study of three of the shortest Upanishads: the Kena, the Ishavasya, and the Mandukya. These are fundamental to Hindu Dharma and are foundational to Hindu religious teachings and spirituality. We refer to the commentary of Shankaracharya and others.
